Installing AWS Tools on Windows

Hey all your AWS fans. Here is a guide to installing the tools on a Windows machine. You simply require Windows PowerShell 3.0 or later, as long as .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later is also installed.

Open Powershell as an Administrator

Run the following command to allow scripts to run: Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

This will ensure you can run scripts in Powershell.

Ensure you have access to the PSGallery but running the following command:

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Get-PSRepository

To install the AWS.Tools modules, run the following:

PS > Install-Module -Name AWS.Tools.Common

It will then prompt you to install from an untrusted repository.

Untrusted repository You are installing the modules from an untrusted repository. If you trust this repository, change its InstallationPolicy value by running the Set-PSRepository cmdlet. Are you sure you want to install the modules from 'PSGallery'? [Y] Yes [A] Yes to All [N] No [L] No to All [S] Suspend [?] Help (default is "N"):

Select A

It should complete and return back to the cursor. Now to test, simply run: Get-AWSRegion

Above is showing all the regions for AWS. Your good to go.
